#46 Tumbler in Indigo with Yellow Ring

This practical tumbler still features the hallmarks of Akio's expert craftsmanship. The rim is ringed with bright yellow slip. The sides of the tumbler are carved with parallel lines that accentuate the shape of the cup. The shinogi—a traditional Japanese decorative technique—are carved carefully by hand into the surface of the piece. After bisque firing Akio applies colored slips and then glazes the pieces with translucent matte glaze. Beautiful to see and incredible to hold.
